The Effects of Nursing on NICU Patient Outcomes

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the data collection phase in this NINR funded study. Four rounds of data collection were completed: July, October, and December 2009 and March 2010. Data were collected from a total of 3,873 nurses and 9,2712 infants, and 69 VON NICU’s.

Reports have been distributed for rounds 1-3, which were followed by a series of webinar training sessions that reviewed the report content. We are preparing to distribute the 4th round of reports and are looking forward to hosting a final wrap-up webinar that will include data reported by NICU level, magnet status, shift and day of week. These sessions will be conducted, Fall 2010.

At this point, the research team is in the analytic phase. We will keep you posted as we disseminate these findings. We look forward to sharing further updates with all of you at the VON Annual Meeting in December 2010. We anticipate continuing this research program with our nursing consortium colleagues and hope to include other VON NICU’s in future research endeavors. We are in the beginning stages of developing a third research proposal and will notify VON members as we begin to recruit. Announcements will be made on the VON website.
